Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling extended contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined 51 million viewers across the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this represents the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game since the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game series recorded 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total US average reached 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance after 2017.

MLB stated that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
